The Hard Numbers
What exactly does this kit cost to build? What are the exact dimensions and specifications? The most time intensive part of engineering a quality kit is to make sure the vehicle dimensions and specifications are as close to period correct as possible without compromising performance and buildability.
Our experience with selling Mk3 base (donor capable) kits tells us that a well-built Factory Five Roadster can easily be built for under $20,000, while the average completed cost is between $20 and $23K dollars.
The Mk3 Complete kit costs only $19,990 and requires just three things to finish… 1. Engine/trans, 2. Wheels, and 3. Paint. Your selection of these parts and what you pay for them will determine you completed vehicle cost.
The attached specifications are for chassis kit AND vehicle. Attached is a completed vehicle specification and cost build sheet for a Mk3 roadster. This particular car was built with parts from a 2004 Mustang Cobra with a 4.6 DOHC engine.
One of the reasons our car has so effectively captured the look, feel and performance of the original 1960’s roadsters is that we kept the specifications and construction methods as similar as possible. We didn’t assume that we could come up with better base lines than those followed by the original designers of the time. There is a distinct beauty to the roadracing cars of the early sixties that is timeless. Using the original vintage British and American cars for inspiration, we obsessed on small things like windshield rake or roll bar position and such.
Our car has an original spec 90” wheelbase and 4.5” ground clearance. One of the worst things to do to a replica is to stretch or change its wheelbase. If you’ve ever seen one of those horrible Fiero-turned-into-Ferrari replicars, you know what we mean. The incorrect wheelbase makes the car look wrong immediately. You wouldn’t think your eyes are so accurate but it’s this same ability that lets you see a picture on a wall is uneven, even if it’s only tilted a single degree!
While the car is a clone of the original legend on the outside, the vehicle weight and the balance of our car is much improved over replicas and vintage cars. Overall vehicle weight and weight distribution are among the most important factors that help any car handle, and one of the biggest reasons why our cars drive so well.
