We first met Bob, then a captain in the Quincy, MA fire department, back in 1999.  That was when he took delivery of his first Factory Five, FFR 1538.

Bob introduces Tami and William of Leominster, MA to the world of Factory Five.

That car was built the way he had always envisioned a Roadster should.  A bright red paint job hid the snarling teeth of a four barrel carbureted 347 inside the engine bay.

Even back then, Bob was a fixture at Factory Five.

Before the rest of the crew could drag their weary bodies into the factory for Saturday morning tour duty, Bob was anxiously awaiting our arrival.  He met us every Saturday morning with a box of munchkin donuts and a big grin on his face.

We would often ask ourselves - how could this guy be so happy all the time?   (this is definitely NOT a common trait among Massachusetts’ natives)

Bob had two new great joys in his life, we would learn, and both revolved around Factory Five

He enjoyed driving his Roadster any chance that he could, and he just loved hanging out at our factory.

Over the course of the past 7 years, Bob has gone on to build every car in our fleet (including a part of the one-week in-house GTM build) and his passion for Factory Five has grown even further.

Several years after retirement, he headed south to Georgia to escape the long New England winters, but still took his zeal with him.

He started a business building and selling completed Roadsters, Coupes and Challenge Cars.

At some point, however, he realized that the south didn’t agree with him, so he and his wife Marge moved back home to Plymouth.

When Bob arrived back in Mass., we gave him more reasons to come visit.

Bob has recently joined Joe as the one-two punch of primary tech support gurus.

So when you call up with a question, or swing by for a visit, it just might be Bob (builder of 5 Factory Fives so far) who will guide you to the answers that you need.  As expected, Bob is one of the hardest working guys at Factory Five, and usually the first to do a tour, the first to answer the phone, the first and last guy on the job (this guy is killing us, he makes us all look like slackers).

Bob Kay and his daughter Meredith Kay – a Factory Five family affair

Even before Bob joined the crew, he had talked one of his daughters into taking the trek to replica nirvana.

Meredith Kay is now part of the stellar shipping staff, ensuring that packages are shipped to customers in a timely, efficient and safe manner.
