Kara Shepherd rides to her wedding in style

Dave Shepherd’s FFR 4469 serves dual role of limo and wedding show-stopper

We received a great email recently from Dave Shepherd of Hanson, MA, sharing his joy of Factory Five ownership, sheer pleasure in building the car, oh, and his daughter’s wedding.

We were nearly brought to tears by this story, so we thought that we would share it with all of you.

I want to take a moment and share a special moment in my life with everyone at FFR.

I married off my youngest daughter on 9/9 after driving her (in full gown, veil and 6 foot train) to the church in my MK II roadster.

It was probably the slowest 3 miles I’ve driven!

We got lots of smiles, thumbs up and several looks of pure amazement from everyone we passed.

Getting her in wasn’t as bad as getting her out once we reached the church, but we did it without setting the gown or train on fire from the side exhaust and without her putting a high heel through my 2 week old Sube Roadster SS seats.

The ride in the roadster was hysterical. Her veil ended up wrapped around her face, to the point where she could hardly see and we were both laughing so damn hard we were in tears. I’m absolutely amazed that we got her out of the roadster safely, though it did take three of us to accomplish it. As I said before, the worst part was when I looked down and saw her standing on my brand new seats in her 3 inch heels. Dad came close to a heart attack then!

Intrigued, we contacted “Shep” for more details:

I’ve got three daughters, so planning (and paying for)  weddings is old hat for me..

Kara is my youngest (just turned 28 on 10/7) and she’s the closest one to a car nut I’ve got. She watched closely throughout the entire roadster build and just absolutely loves the car.

Shep knows a good donor car when he sees one

When we began planning this wedding she asked if she and her new husband could drive away from the church in the roadster. I thought that would be cool until her next question, which was ‘Can you teach him how to drive a stick?’ At that point I had visions of fried clutches, roadsters jumping the curb and crashing into the wedding party, etc.

My alternate suggestion was that instead of hiring a limo, I drive her to the church in the roadster.  Obviously, she said yes, but then gave me that look that all fathers dread, and said ‘Well then how about arranging for a nice white Mustang convertible for us to drive away from the church in?’

So, we used the roadster to take her to the church and they both drove away in the white ’95 GT convertible that I finally found 3 weeks before the wedding.

I figured out about half way through the reception, which was held in her sister’s back yard, that I probably could have covered half the cost of the wedding if I’d charged people for pictures of them standing beside or sitting in my Factory Five.
