Finalized & Approved Canadian Import Procedure

NEW!  Effective March 23, 2004

Introduction:

We have been shipping FFR parts and chassis kits to Canada successfully for almost ten years. We are one of the few U.S. companies that has taken the time to understand and comply with Canadian regulations.  After working closely with Canadian regulatory officials, we have developed this clear procedure to make it easy to order and import FFR chassis kits and parts into Canada.  If you are considering importing a kit into Canada, keep in mind that Factory Five is one of the only (if not THE only) replica kit allowed into the country from the U. S.

Definitions and Responsibilities:

  • Factory Five Racing sells vehicle parts in un-assembled kit form directly to customers who intend to build their own vehicle (home-builders) for personal use.

  • Factory Five Racing does not provide completed vehicles in any stage of assembly.  Factory Five Racing does not sell cars, kit cars or vehicles of any type.  Our chassis kits require complete fabrication by a customer and contain fewer than 50% of the required content of a vehicle in both value or part content.

  • Factory Five sells parts directly to customers in Canada.  Those parts are limited to those listed on the approved “Canadian Kit Packlist” and approved “Canadian Options list”.  These exact parts lists were reviewed by Transport Canada officials and contain only the exact parts eligible for sale in Canada by Factory Five Racing, Inc.  There are more parts that we sell to American customers listed on our website, however, these parts are not available to Canadian customers.

  • As a Canadian customer, you are the importer of record.  That means you have to deal directly with Canadian customs and transport officials.  We have established this procedure, with the cooperation of Transport Canada, to help you do this in a simple step-by-step process.

Ordering Procedure:

When you are ready to place an order for an FFR Mk3 Roadster kit, call us at 508-291-3443 and we will walk you thru the step-by-step procedure designed to make this job as easy as possible.

Refer to the attached “Canadian Order Form” for the Mk3 Roadster.  You might want to review the Canadian Kit Packlist” before placing your order to see exactly what this kit contains.

  1. Call Factory Five Racing and ask to order a Mk3 Roadster kit.  We will take your order information and ask for an initial deposit of $1,000.  This is a refundable deposit for any reason.

  1. Review and complete the “Canadian Order Form” which lists the available Canadian parts and options.

  1. We will complete the order information with you on the phone or in person and enter your order into our computer system.

  1. A “Kit Congratulations Pack” will be sent to you and an engineer or technical support person will review your order as the production date approaches.

  1. We will call you a few weeks before your production-complete date and request final payment.  We request final payment from Canadian customers because our system must generate a zero balance invoice as part of the documentation that gets forwarded to Canadian officials.

  1. Upon receipt of your payment, we will forward to you the following VERY IMPORTANT documents…

6.1              The exact invoice for your chassis kit parts.  The invoice will have a zero balance owed and record the parts and options ordered. Click here for a sample of this.

6.2              An exact copy of the actual packlist of your chassis kit.  The packlist will have your name and invoice number clearly recorded on each and every page.

6.3              The NAFTA agreement form. Click here for a sample copy of this form.

  1. When you receive these documents from us you must forward these documents, via fax to Canadian officials.  Harry and Sylvain at Transport Canada have approved hundreds of FFR kits so they won’t take long, but please try and give them AT LEAST 2 weeks to process this information.  Calling them repeatedly or sending volumes of email will not get this approval done any faster.

  1. Transport Canada will review your documents and forward to you a letter indicating you are cleared to import these articles (click here to see a sample of this letter).

  1. Once approval is received (in the form of this letter), you may make arrangements for the picking-up and/or shipping of your kit.  If you are shipping this kit on a commercial carrier and you will not be present at the border, you must arrange a broker.

We hope that by publishing these guidelines we will make it easier for our valued customers from Canada to buy and import our parts.  If you have any questions, please give us a call and we will do everything we can to help.

There are many customers in Canada who have good experience with importing FFR kits and we can give you their contact information as well.  If you would like someone to coordinate this process there is a company that has done this in the past and we would be happy to put you in touch with them as well.

Note:  This procedure applies to FFR Mk3 roadster kits and parts only.  If you would like to order a Spyder GT kit, a Type 65 Coupe kit, a Challeneg Sereis Racer kit, please call us for more information.
