GTM Testing Session

New Hampshire Raceway, July 21

7/21/05  Loudon, New Hampshire

Results are in from the latest testing session on the track.  The GTM prototype #3 is passing functional and handling tests with flying colors.  This makes our target production dates a bit easier as there are no major re-designs or changes on the horizon.

The entire GTM development team headed up to Loudon, NH to spend a morning at the track testing in preparation for the release of the design to production.  Work remains on several secondary items like power windows, wiper system and a few others, but results from the morning test confirm the team is happy with the base car.

The car arrived without its rear wing but with the rear carbon fiber diffuser mounted for downforce.  Additional venting was cut into the hood to test air flow management (cooling has not been a problem to date) and also see what it would actually look like.  The radiator stayed pinned to the 197-205 degree range no matter what we did on the track (nominal for a stock C-5 Corvette) and people didn’t seem to mind the larger cut-out vents.

The purpose of this extended test (track was open for a four hour block) was to evaluate the cars handling, performance, interior sound and heat management (ideal as the temps were in the plus 90 degree range), and visibility.

The engineering team was joined by Mark Dougherty from tech support.  Mark is also a licensed roadracer and he got a chance to drive the car for some independent evaluations.  Video footage was shot from a camera mounted on an FFR challenge racer that was used for a chase vehicle and for comparison purposes.

The car is really surpassing all of our expectations and the design team was definitely STOKED when they got back to the shop at the end of the day.  We are very proud of the design and feel the additional time (years) we’ve spent are really starting to show.

Stay tuned and we’ll do our best to keep you up to date!
