GTM Update

May 2004

We have received a large number of requests for more information on the GTM project.  We wanted to give you guys an update on where the project is and what are some early production estimates.

Months ago we moved all work to a separate facility (close to FFRs main building but far enough to keep it out of prying eyes).  Our development team is small and well defined.  Tons of money and resources continue to be poured into the project as it has gone from feasibility to a green light for final development, prototyping and soon pilot production.

We are right now assembling the second prototype car being built for track testing within a few months.

The most significant news is that we have made some fairly large changes to the body shape and wheelbase.  The prototype chassis has grown from 98” wheelbase to a new 101” length.  This change was made for improved high speed stability, increased cockpit space, and better visibility.

The resulting dimensional changes to the nose gave us a chance to re-shape some of the front end contours and modify the mold plan for replacement parts (spoiler/splitter area).  The Chassis is really settled down to a final configuration and a running chassis has been tested sans body.

The prototype uses C-5 Corvette engine and suspension parts as well as a Porsche G50 transmission (not limited to).

The big questions are still:

  • When will it be a driving car that I can see?
  • When can I buy one?
  • How much will it cost?

Answers for now are…

We should have a completed driver this summer.  We still feel that we may get production units out the door before the end of the year, but more likely 2005 in earnest.  Lastly, while we can’t know final pricing, you must trust the crew at FFR are committed to changing the world… and that doesn’t happen with yet another super priced supercar.

Hope this update helps.  More to come as we go.

Note:  A great number of FFR customers and enthusiasts have contributed ideas, feedback and generously offered their time and energies (a lot of volunteer test drivers… go figure…)  Seriously, we wanted to send out a big thank you to everyone who has contributed.  The volume of emails, letters and volunteers has been overwhelming, and has definitely affected the direction of this landmark FFR design.  Thanks to everyone!
