Spina’s Spyder featured in Kit Car Builder magazine John Spina shows off his Grand National powered FFR John Spina (Long Grove, IL) can’t get the Buick Grand National out of his system. The Grand National was probably the original stealthmobile. This was a turbo-V6 powered all black sedan, a virtual rocketship produced on a Buick Regal platform. It dominated drag strips nationwide in the mid 80’s, and was certainly an impetus for the revival of muscle cars from every auto manufacturer. With more than 300 hp right out of the box, it snuck up on the rest of the traffic that was still worrying about how high the price of gas would go (ok, so maybe times haven’t changed that much after all). |

John had already built a GN powered roadster, so when he came to the SEMA show in 2003 he was ready for something new. He saw the prototype Spyder GT in the Factory Five booth and in it he saw his next project.
The culmination of two years of re-engineering the kit to fit his motor culminated in an awesome article in Kit Car Builder magazine. |
