You might remember the post from early March where we talked about customer Erik Hansen from California and his electric 818 build (click here to read it). Erik, working with the crew from EV West, has made tremendous progress on the build since then not only showing it off at last weekend’s Huntington Beach Cruise-In, but also taking it to Adams MotorSports Park in Riverside, CA for testing.
The team at Autoblog.com did a write-up on the 818 testing session in an article titled “Factory Five Racing 818 Electric Users in New Era of EV Builds” which gives a brief history of Factory Five and the 818 project Erik and EV West have been working on. The article then reports on the track testing, and mentions how the car doesn’t even have the body on at the moment. “Despite sharing the track with a handful of converted cars,” writes AutoBlog’s Domenick Yoney, “the little racer found the real estate to make some big impressions.”

In addition to the AutoBlog.com write-up, Gas2.org was also covered the track testing and writer Christopher DeMorro notes ,”the lightweight 16 kWh worth of lithium-ion batteries are said to be good for between 60 and 70 miles of normal driving, and the 818 is compatible with public charging stations thanks to a 5 kW on-board charger, making it street legal and practical.”

The crew at EV West have put together a great video of the track shakedown and highlights a lot of the technology that they and Erik have put into the car. Check out the clip below.
