Factory Five Racing Wins Southern New England Small Business of the Year

The greater New Bedford Chamber of Commerce has selected Factory Five Racing to receive its 2012 Small Business of the Year Award.

“Factory Five is a wonderful company and a great success story,” said chamber President Roy Nascimento about the award presented during a breakfast program Thursday. “It’s a small business that has grown, hired more employees, and has given back to the community and to various causes.”

Factory Five president Dave Smith said he was excited to receive the award, which he believes validates the company’s decision to keep investing in the business even when the economy was hurting.

Factory Five team members were on hand to accept the award. Left to Right: Kyle Barros, Chamber of Commerce Roy Nascimeto, Meredith Kay, Eddie Brundage, Dave Smith, Jessie Riha, Bank Five President, Chad Gonsalves.

“In 2009 and 2010, even into 2011, we invested a tremendous amount into the company when almost everybody said don’t do it,” said Smith. “Although the economic skies have cleared a little bit, winning this award to me is really a validation of the wisdom of investing, investing in our company, in our equipment and our people.”

Factory Five Racing is the first manufacturing company to win the award since 2007.

The award was presented at a Good Morning SouthCoast program in Dartmouth, MA on Thursday, June 14th. The award program also included talks by Dave Andelman of the TV show “Phantom Gourmet,” and the Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter.
