The folks at SEMA are working hard on our behalf and their efforts are being rewarded in states across the country – including Arkansas, Florida, New York and Virginia. |

SEMA has drafted legislation allowing (among other things) registration of replicas as the year of the body that they most represent. SEMA-model laws have already been enacted in Virginia, Washington, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Missouri, Montana and Rhode Island allowing registration of a Mk3 Roadster as a 1965 replica. The folks in Arkansas and Virginia should also rejoice as their governors have recently signed off on their respective bills. |

The Virginia law (from the SEMA website): Car hobbyists and related businesses scored another major victory when a version of SEMA model legislation to create a statutory titling and registration class for replica vehicles was passed by the Virginia General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Tim Kaine. The new law goes into effect on July 1, 2007. The law defines a replica as a vehicle not fully constructed by a licensed manufacturer but either constructed or assembled from components. The measure allows these vehicles to be titled and registered under the model year of which the vehicle is a replica and only requires that they meet safety and emissions requirements as established for that model year. |

Empire State and Sunshine State FFROGs should get politically active to support SEMA bills, which have been recently introduced into their General Assemblies.
New York car enthusiasts are urged to contact members of the Assembly’s Transportation Committee and request this legislation’s approval. The members and their contact information are listed below. Floridians should go directly to their governor to ensure that he signs the bill into law. |
