Pro-Hobbyist Custom Vehicle/Kit Car/Replica Legislation Reintroduced in Tennessee

Legislation has been reintroduced in the Tennessee State Senate (S.B. 2729) by State Senator Tim Burchett (sen.tim.burchett@legislature.state.tn.us) to create a vehicle registration and titling classification for custom vehicles.  The bills define a custom-built car as vehicle that is built for private use and is not constructed by a licensed manufacturer or remanufacturer.  Under the bill, kit cars and replica vehicles will be assigned a certificate of title bearing the same model year designation as the production vehicle it most closely resembles.

We urge you to contact members of the Tennessee Senate Transportation Committee immediately to request support for S.B. 2729

  • S.B. 2729 provides a specific registration/titling class for customs, including kits and replicas.

  • S.B. 2729 provides that a replica vehicle will be assigned a certificate of title bearing the same model year designation as the production vehicle it most closely resembles.

Please contact members of the Tennessee Senate Transportation Committee by phone, fax or e-mail to urge their support of S.B. 2729.
