When Dick Smith visited us last year, he promised his wife that they would come back this fall to celebrate Columbus Day in New England. It really is a beautiful time of year in this part of the country, and along with the start of the fall colors, you can still get bright, beautiful days with remarkably blue skies. Although the loss felt from Dick’s untimely departure still hits us hard, we also recognize the need to celebrate the great memories we have of him. We have Dick’s legendary CSX 3035 back in house now and Heather will be joining us from California for the long weekend. We thought that it would be a nice time for the FFR faithful to come out to Wareham as well. Dick would have been the first one to get behind a fun driving event, so that’s what we are planning. |

This won’t be a fall Open House, but we thought that we would invite a few friends to join us at the factory, and, weather permitting, take some cars out for a spirited cruise down to Newport, RI at the end of the day. We’ll be showcasing Dick’s car from 10am until 12pm, and afterwards we’ll hit the road. We hope that we can get a good group of cars to join us on the cruise. |

At 12:00 Noon, we’ll cruise from Factory Five down to Brenton Point Park in Newport, RI. Click here to print out the route from GoogleMaps. The cruise takes us down Rte 195 to Rte 24 onto Aquidneck Island, through some scenic back roads past 1st and 2nd Beaches in Newport, down Bellevue Ave. with the Newport Mansions and winds through Ocean Ave. before bringing us to the park at Brenton Point. From there, there’s plenty to see and do in Newport to start off your (hopefully) long Columbus Day Weekend. |
