Memories of Dick Smith
Customer shares his memories of the legend
At the
anniversary of his plane crash last week, we all sat back and
reflected on our lives, and how they had been impacted by our
friend, legendary racer Dick Smith. All over the world, we suspect,
many people also took time to reflect.

One customer,
Randall Cox, shared his memories of Dick, and more specifically, a
day back in 2005 that they spent cruising around California
together. Randall’s note to us as well as a few of the images from
the adventure is posted here. |

Just thought you'd like a couple of pics of a cruise my son, Jason,
and I went on with Dick Smith on May 10, 2005 - he actually
organized it. We formed up about 12 various cars (two original
Cobras, Dick's and the white 289 in the pic) and went from Marin
County in Calif (just north of San Francisco) and drove over to
Bodega Bay on the coast and had lunch at the Tides restaurant where
Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" was filmed many years ago. There
were about 5 FFR cobras, including my green one, and in one of the
pics you'll also see Chuck Robertson and his red FFR who trailered
all the way from Las Vegas, NV. We all went all the way to the
Pacific Ocean and parked and took some pics. |

You
can see Dick's famous "198" on the end and me at the other end in
FFR1653. The car show pic was in Exeter, CA (where I live) and my
son's totally restored red 1968 Dodge Charger is next to me. That's
also me with Dick Smith (shaking hands for a pic) right after a
small town parade in Exeter.
Dick Smith was a good friend and just a genuinely nice guy. I know
we all miss him.... |
