Race a Factory Five on your desktop

ScreenRacertm brings Challenge Series to your computer

Mike Gehri (FFR 5030K) has several passions in his life, and his Mark2 Factory Five is firmly entrenched at the top of his list.

One of his other primary interests, however, is computer graphics.  Mike is one of those guys that make the computer graphics that keep raising the bar on the visual quality in current computer games.  (If you haven’t played a computer game since your Atari “Pong” days, you’re in for a surprise at what is currently on the market).

His worlds collided when he was mesmerized while staring at one of those aquarium screensavers.  You know the one - where there seems to be an endless number of fish, and the tank is never in the same orientation.

That’s cool for girlie-men, he thought, but there had to be something available for car guy crowd that was more, well, manly.

The solution dawned on him immediately – a screen saver racing program featuring his favorite car, the Factory Five!

In his spare time, it took two years to fully develop, with numerous iterations and refinements (like many Factory Fives), but the result is unbelievable!

The finished version includes stock cars and FFR Challenge Cars, as well as a variety of tracks and settings.

We promise you - once you get one on your screen, you’ll purposely wait for the sleep mode to kick in - just to watch the on-track action!  Since it’s never the same race, you really have to watch it frequently – it never gets old!

After years of development, Mike wanted to finally put the project to bed, but a meeting with his marketing agent sent him back to the proverbial drawing board.

“It was a suggestion from my marketing agent, Ryan, to create an announcer feature. My first thought was that this is a screensaver, no one wants to hear people talking. But Ryan was certain that he could get some really talented people to record voices of the announcer feature. We added the feature and he was able to get Jeff Hammond and Kenny Wallace (both seasoned NASCAR announcers) to call the action.”

As soon as these professionals hit the mics, they had energy and enthusiasm as if calling the last laps of a NASCAR race.  Their excitement, humor, and improvisational approach “off the script” are an infectious addition to the program – we find it hard to believe that we had previously enjoyed the ScreenRacer program without sound.  (Due to contractual obligations, the “play by play” is only available on the stockcar version.)

Although the demo versions have some sound-bites, you cannot get the scope of the Jeff and Kenny’ input without checking out the full version.

Mike explains “I’m sure that anyone who downloads the demo will be able listen to the audio and know that we really had a great time doing this. In the end, I think it really brings the 3D racing experience together!”

A demo program has already been set up for you to try out.  Go ahead and check it out.  The demo is free, and if you like it go back and get the full version.

More information from Mike himself:

Roughly a year into the project it really started to grow into a great program and I was able to get logo agreements from organizations such as Factory Five Racing, the National Auto Sport Association, VP Racing fuels and many others.

Around April last year, we lost Dan Lawson.

Although I did not personally know him, but I guess when you own one of these kits you feel tied in as a family. I wanted do something positive for the Lawson family and contacted Bob Lawson to ask if I could honor Dan by putting his car into the ScreenRacer program.

He liked the idea and expressed that he felt Dan would be honored to have his name associated with this. Even though Dan was known for his #14 Challenge Car, his favorite car was the #11 car the brothers owned (Dan designed that paint scheme).

My first release was the stockcar series ScreenRacer and with it I was able to get the attention of some really great people that were able to setup a sound recording session with Jeff Hammond and Kenny Wallace.

I will soon be releasing the GTM ScreenRacer as well, and I must say, they look very hot in a tight pack on the track!

So if you purchase the Challenge Series version now, I’ll send you a coupon code for the GTM ScreenRacer when it becomes available.

One of my favorite features I had built into ScreenRacer is the dynamic nature of the program. You can have multiple cars types and tracks, run races in order or randomly. They all work together seamlessly -any car can race on any track.  It’s a real treat to watch the Challenge Cars run 180mph down the back stretch of the super speedway that comes with the Stockcar Series ScreenRacer.
