Hot Rod Magazine Car Hits the Street

January Issue of Hot Rod Tests the Factory Five '33

The third and final installment of Hot Rod Magazine's FFR '33 Ford build-up articles just landed in our mailbox.  In the January issue, the car hits the street, the drag strip, and the autocross course.

"Pro-touring can kiss our butt.  The Race Rod is all business with the orange cones."
Hot Rod Magazine

After the car was built at LK Motorsports in Hermosa Beach, CA, the staff of Hot Rod Magazine had the car taken to the 2009 Hot Rod Power Tour, where it was driven and displayed in the FFR booth.  Following the Power Tour, the car went to the GoodGuys Nationals in Columbus, OH where it proceeded to spank a large field of high-dollar pro-touring cars in the autocross competition.  A few weeks later, the car made its way back to Wareham, MA where Factory Five Director of R&D Jim Schenck set the suspension and took it to New England Dragway.

A few weeks ago, the car performed its final "promotional" duty, headlining the Factory Five display at the 2009 SEMA Show.

Days after the show, Editor Rob Kinnan entered the Optima Challenge at Spring Mountain Raceway north of Las Vegas where he very well may have earned top honors if it wasn't for a minor off track incident.  Dust and scratches aside, it was a great way to end a great year with the car.

"...the car burned up the short
autocross course with a time of
31.36 seconds...quicker than all the
Street Machine of the Year
contenders."

Rob Kinnan
Hot Rod Magazine Editor

The car is now back home in southern California where Rob will be trolling for Corvettes on Friday and Saturday nights. It has been a remarkable year of accomplishments with this car, a year that began with the five day build and brought details of the newest Factory Five to the larger hot rod industry.
