After more than a year of
development, and after proving themselves in action at recent
magazine tests, Factory Five Racing is proud to announce the
addition of Koni Products to our parts catalog and kit options
lists.
The shocks are single
adjustable with proprietary valving (made by Koni specifically for
Factory Five and available only through us) and come complete with
the coil-over kit and fasteners. FFR engineers Jim Schenck and
Jesper Ingerslev have worked alongside Koni engineers to develop
this shock and valving through computer modeling, track testing,
and use of Koni’s own testing circuit.
These combined efforts of
FFR engineering and the crew at Koni have resulted in a coil-over
shock kit that delivers a great balance between street and track
driving. A very smooth ride is maintained on the street, and the
performance numbers on the track are truly impressive. You’ll find
that these new Konis will give your car a very precise feel in its
handling. They are rebound adjustable for those that desire to do
some fine tuning of their own.
The
damper body has a red finish, and the shaft is 0.539” in
diameter. The larger size of the shock body requires the use of
2.5”diameter springs, and in the concern for weight and fitment, we
chose an 8” spring height. With the change in damper rates we also
found some ride and handling improvements by additionally changing
the spring rates.
As a result, the solid
axle coil-over shock kits include 350lb springs, front end kits
include 500lb springs, and IRS kits include 750lb springs.
Retro-fit kits work with all FFR Roadster, Coupe, Spyder and
Challenge cars kits.
In action, the Konis work
great. Car & Driver magazine editor Larry Webster drove a Factory
Five Mk3 Roadster equipped with these new Konis front and rear. He
remarked that the car was simply the best driving Cobra replica he
had ever been in.
The same car competed in
a Primedia sponsored kit manufacturers’ shoot-out event in late
April 2007. The car ran the fastest time through the slalom, while
out-braking and out-accelerating all other replicas at this event.
These new Koni brand
coil-over shock kits can be used on Mk1, 2, and 3 Roadsters, all
Type 65 Coupes and Spyders as well as Challenge cars*. These parts
can now be purchased directly from our
parts catalog or as available upgrade options with new
kit orders.
