Texas Cobra Club Event – October 2020

This year, there have been very few car events due to the coronavirus, BUT the good people at the Texas Cobra Club held their Spring Cruise-In (delayed) in the Fall, and I was lucky to attend.

Organizer Ken Walker spearheaded the four day event, which highlighted cruises each day, a track day, and an awards dinner. The proceeds are donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation on behalf of my daughter Jenny and also the Shelby Heart Fund.

Road Warriors! Factory Five customers Dan Hall, Sten Johnson, and Craig Watkins each DROVE their own Factory Fives 1,200 miles from Illinois and Wisconsin to the event! They also drove over 300 miles during the four days of cruising and track time.

Attendees stayed at the Embassy Suites Hotel in San Marcos, TX about 30 minutes south of Austin. Each morning, the cars would head out from the hotel for the days events.

After a day of cruising, many participants tailgated in the parking lot.

The track day was held at Harris Hill Raceway. Click here to view some photos from Mitchell Bahr Photography of the track day.

I was invited this year to be the guest speaker, and I took the opportunity to cover the legal history and battles over the name COBRA and the shape of the car, which were subject to years of litigation. If you are interested in the legal background, you can watch a Facebook video on the subject.

Sten Johnson, the ultimate road warrior, saw the odometer on his Mk1 Roadster turn over 80,000 miles on the trip!
