The Race Version of the Gen 3 Coupe

The Daytona Coupe is the most famous car that never really was a car.

There were only six original coupes built, and they were actually 289 CSX Cobras with an aluminum Coupe body. Three of the bodies were made in England, and the other three were made in Italy. The car never went into production.

Our very first version of our Coupe was launched in 2000. In 2010, we gave the design a refresh, but in 2017, we launched this third generation Coupe. Customer, as well as our own team, had been racing Gen 1 and Gen 2 Coupes, but we knew that the original chassis could not keep pace with the latest supercars employing huge horsepower, modern brakes, and technology like ABS, attitude control, and lightening fast automatic paddle shifters.

Designing the Gen 3 Coupe, we KNEW that we would have to launch it with an evil twin sister race version... this is that car!

The Type 65 Coupe-R is based on the complete kit version of the Type 65 Coupe, but made for professional competition. The largest difference between the Gen 3 Coupe and the Gen 3 Coupe-R is that the Gen 3 Coupe-R is that the Coupe-R comes with a competition cage chassis (powder coated in white like all Factory Five competition version chassis').

It also come with the 3-link deluxe rear suspension standard, stiffer springs, leather-covered competition steering wheel, and solo aluminum racing seat.

Unlike the Mk4-R Challenge Car, the Coupe-R retains functional doors despite having full tubular side impact protection of the race cage. The Coupe-R is the rightful heir to the 1965 Daytona Coupe world championship car's legacy.

The Factory Five Racing Type 65 Coupe-R chassis is twice as strong as the incredibly strong Gen 3 Coupe chassis!

This amazing competition chassis is more than 30x stronger than the original 1965 Daytona Coupe chassis. It is a modern CAD-designed spaceframe that delivers exceptional torsional rigidity and modern competition cage safety. The frame is a completely welded assembly and is delivered in bare steel or with an optional gloss white powder coating.

Vintage Looks but Modern Racecar Fast!

The Gen 3 Coupe-R uses the exact same body as the Gen 3 Coupe. The differences lie under the skin and over it.

Under the skin, the Coupe chassis has additional race cage tubing added. Outside, the street Coupe gets wind tunnel-tested and track-proven aerodynamic parts specifically designed for the car.

In it's first season, the Coupe-R earned five 1st place finishes in NASA Pro-Racing in the ST2 Class. The car also earned a Top 10 finish in the Tire Rack Ultimate Challenge Car Challenge running a blistering 1:58.985 on the Virginia International Raceway full course. Also in it's debut season, NASCAR driver Joey Logano drove the car after a four-day build on Snap-On Tools' show "From the Ground Up."

The Coupe-R would finish its inaugural year at the SEMA Show and as a highlight race car in the season finale of "Fast N' Loud".

Type 65 Coupe-R Complete Kit: $22,990

The Type 65 Coupe-R is the complete kit version of the Type 65 Coupe, but made for competition. The kit gives you everything you need to build your car, in one big package. The only things you’ll need are the engine/transmission/rear end, wheels/tires, and a paint job.

The largest difference is that the Coupe-R comes with a competition cage chassis powder coated in white. It also comes with the 3-link deluxe rear suspension standard, stiffer springs, leather-covered competition steering wheel, and solo aluminum racing seat. Changes are noted in red.

Frame:

Complete jig-welded tube frame, 95” wheelbase chassis. Includes all mounts ready to accept small block Ford 302, 351, and 5.0L Coyote engines.

Hand laid 3/16” laminate composite body includes hinged nose, main rear clip and doors with hinged glass rear window. Made with high quality vinylester resin.

Includes over 20 precision CNC cut, pre-formed 6061-T6 aluminum panels for cockpit (floors, trans cover, and footboxes), rear trunk area, and engine bay/ firewall/ splash guards.

Complete Front Suspension:

Unequal length control arms with coil-over shock suspension. Comes complete with all parts and fasteners.

Rear Suspension:

High-end 3-link deluxe rear suspension is standard on complete Coupe-R kits. Designed to be used with Ford 8.8” rear solid axle. Comes with all fasteners and hardware required.

• FFR Deluxe 3-Link suspension kit with rear-end brackets, upper link kit, fasteners, including panhard bar kit with rod-ends and grade-8 fasteners

• Steering rack shaft adapter 9/16”-26 spline and lower steering shaft

Complete Fuel System/Parts:

Based on OEM Ford Mustang fuel tank and system, this assembly provides everything from the gas cap to the lines, and is designed to work with carbureted or fuel injected systems. External fuel pump required.

• OEM Ford fuel tank with mounting straps and hardware, vents, gaskets, pick-up and fuel level sending unit
• Fuel lines, flex lines, unions and barb connectors and filler neck
• Pre-flared fuel lines (1/4” and 5/16”) with unions, barbs, hose clamps and high press flex lines and fasteners
• Aston LeMans style polished aluminum fuel cap with integral plastic OEM style pressure cap, gaskets, ground strap, fuel hose to tank extension with fasteners

Electric cooling fan, thermostat, relays and mounting kit with hardware. Cooling system also includes stainless steel radiator hoses, and all necessary fasteners.
