2019 Detroit Autorama with Ford Performance & Customer Paul B.

Last weekend was the annual Detroit Autorama, and as always, Ford Performance was a big part of the show. This year, two Factory Fives were featured in the Ford booth! Factory Five customer Paul Borror has earned a slew of awards with his 20th Anniversary Mk4 Roadster. Ford Performance also brought their own Factory Five ’33 Hot Rod, this year powered by the new 300+ HP 4-cylinder turbo-charged Mustang engine.

Watson Engineering built this beautiful Factory Five ’33 Hot Rod. Originally powered by the twin-turbo 6-cylinder EcoBoost engine. The car was displayed at SEMA, and now featured with the new Mustang engine.

Paul Borror’s Mk4 has been to the Autorama before, but was selected by Ford to join their display.

Paul was at the Autorama, and helped out in the Ford booth answering questions about Factory Five. Paul has built a handful of Factory Fives, and is currently building a Gen 3 Type 65 Coupe. Here’s the report on the Autorama with pictures from Paul Borror and Dean Paquette:

“A few weeks ago Ford Performance asked I they could display my Mk4 20th Anniversary Roadster (#8674, 03/20) in their booth at the 2019 Detroit Autorama. It happened this past weekend. This build was previously exhibited in a private display at the 2017 Detroit Autorama, where it won first place in Hand Built Sports. Later in 2017, it was at the Factory Five Open House in Wareham, where it won Best Roadster and Best in Show. So with two seasons and 4,000 miles of awesome driving later, I made it back to Autorama. I spent quite a few hours sitting with the car and talking with people at the show, which I really enjoy. I talked to several people who had builds underway, and others who were interested and gave away a number of brochures. The Roadster always gets a lot of attention and a very positive response. Of course the Coyote power is also part of the interest, which is why Ford Performance requested it. As it turns out, my Mk4 was displayed next to the ’33 Hot Rod that Factory Five and Ford Performance put together a couple years ago with an Ecotec engine. Hope to be back at Autorama again next year with my own display. The Gen 3 Coupe I’m building (#59) with a Gen 3 Coyote engine should be completed later this year.”
