Customer David T. Brings Recently Finished Mk4 to HB Cruise-In

Factory Five customer David T. from La Jolla, CA recently finished his Mk4 Roadster and can now call it an award-winning build.  At this past weekend’s Factory Five Huntington Beach Cruise-In, David’s Mk4 was awarded ‘Editors’ Choice’ by Hot Rod Magazine!

David visited us here in Wareham, MA back in 2012 to take a tour of the factory and meet the team.  Owner Dave Smith was around, and after talking with David in the showroom for a little bit, grabbed the keys to FFR’s red, Ford 5.0L Coyote-powered Mk4 Roadster, and took David for a cruise around town.  “I was hooked!” wrote David.

David’s a pediatric dentist by day, so attention to detail is a big part of his life and he didn’t want his Mk4 build to be any different.  He spent a little over a year putting his Roadster together using a Ford 5.0L Coyote to power it, Tremec TKO 600, and Moser 8.8 rear.  He also went with the Wilwood brakes, wipers, and heater options from Factory Five. David incorporated a few convenience features including heated seats, trunk mounted blue tooth stereo, electronically controlled e-brake, power steering, and power brakes. The paint was done by Jeff “Da Bat” Miller at Miller Customs.

Congratulations on an excellent build, David, and on winning “Editors’ Choice” at the 2014 Huntington Beach Cruise-In!

Stay tuned for more coverage from this year’s HB event throughout the week.

Mark S. Graduates His Mk4 & Scores Magazine Cover!

Congratulations to customer Mark S. on graduating his Mk4 Roadster build! Mark came for a tour of Factory Five in March 2020 to meet Dave Smith and the team. Mark also had the chassis galvanised to…

Factory Five is Closed Today, Monday January 26, 2026.

I made the call to scrub FFR operations for the day. The drive in wasn’t bad, and most roads are clear. Unfortunately our plow crew was late, and the day dawned with 3-4′ drifts in the back parking lot! We will be at work and at full strength tomorrow. Sorry for any difficulties this may cause. Three Generations Embark on a Type 65 Coupe Dream Build

Dave Ryan’s Type 65 Coupe build is moving right along—and it’s become something even bigger along the way. In collaboration with Factory Five Racing, V6 Media is producing a short film documenting the build process. Recently, Dave’s father, Vaun Ryan, sat down to share his lifelong passion for performance cars and motorcycles—sparked as a young boy on the family farm in Utah, building a homemade go-kart powered by a hay-elevator motor. That curiosity for how things work turned into a lifetime of mechanical enthusiasm, passed down through generations and now culminating in Dave’s Type 65 Coupe build, which is a…
