Customer Dennis W.’s Mk4 Roadster

Customer Dennis W. from Portsmouth, Ohio “wanted to build a Factory Five Roadster since seeing information about the first generation car in Kit Car Magazine when I was in college. I was able to complete the entire car including the bodywork and paint —the part of the project I am the most proud of! My only past bodywork experience was smearing bondo on my Jeep cj7 as a teenager. After weeks of reading books, going through forums, watching videos, and asking questions, I purchased an air compressor from Rural King. Then I built a spray booth inside my garage, and went to work.

I bought the complete Factory Five Mk4 kit, and went with a Blueprint carbureted 302 engine with a five speed gearbox. I chose American Muscle wheels with Firestone Firehawk Indy tires, and GM Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic paint.

I would like to thank my dad for helping to keep me organized, Hart Kelley (a fellow build school student) for answering all my questions, Steve Matheny for his advice with bodywork and paint, Factory Five forum members edwardb, Papa, and Srobinson for their detailed experiences and recommendations, and Factory Five for producing a product that has given me so much enjoyment!

The car is a blast to drive, but I must admit I enjoyed the building process more. I am already working on ideas for the engine, transmission, paint, wheels and tires for the next project, a Factory Five Hot Rod Truck build!”
