When Evan R. recently shared a wedding photo featuring a Factory Five Mk4 Roadster as his getaway car, the caption read: “The Cobra is done Oh yeah and we got married.”

But behind that lighthearted caption is a story about a project that brought a dad and his three sons together to make lasting memories and build an iconic car.

The Mk4 in the photo actually belongs to Evan’s dad, Mike, who built it over the past two years alongside his three sons. Mike shared his family build story with us.

“We received our kit in January 2023, completing the mechanical assembly in my oldest son‘s garage in the Nashville area. After the mechanical build, we trailered the car back to Pennsylvania for bodywork, paint, and final assembly, including the interior.
The total build time is estimated to be around 1,200 hours which includes all aspects of bodywork and paint, and also includes the hours spent stitching the custom vinyl seats and interior. The build was a family affair, including my three sons, and a cousin who did most of the heavy lifting in terms of auto body and paint.

After enjoying the car myself for about a year, I took it back to Tennessee, so that my son could enjoy it as well. While having it in Nashville, he also used it as his getaway car in his wedding.”

Evan painted a scale model replica of the Mk4, and now, both the full-size car and the model make regular appearances at local car shows.

Congratulations to Evan and his wife, Ashley on tying the knot and congratulations to this incredible family on their Mk4 Roadster. This Mk4 is more than a build – it’s a family heirloom and memories in motion.
