Project 818 Welcome and First Pre-Order Update

First of all, welcome to Project 818. If you are receiving this e-mail, you are one of 129 customers who have placed their faith in us and pre-ordered our exciting new 818 sports car package. In the coming days, you will receive a hard copy of your order and an initial ESTIMATED production date. Each month or so, as we approach production (to begin in June 2013), I will be sending you an e-mail update, such as this one. These e-mail updates are ONLY sent to customers with orders for the 818. You may choose to share the details of our updates, but we will not be posting the bulk of these updates publicly.

Update 11/20/2012: Right now, we are still letting the dust settle from a very successful 2012 SEMA Show and initial product introduction. The reception of the 818 was truly beyond all of our expectations. As excited as we are, we are also dedicated to making sure that the 818 receives the most comprehensive testing and well considered launch planning. 10 years ago, I would have released the product as it is now, but the importance of this car to our company cannot be understated.

The 818R (shown in blue above) is currently at an outside race shop where it is getting final work done before heading south to Georgia for three months of track testing. When the car is optimized, we will proceed with testing by Grassroots Motorsports Magazine. While the race car is undergoing track development, the street car has been completely disassembled and is being modified for additional street testing and tooling is being finalized.

We will do our best to communitcate changes and updates, however, it is my goal to protect the development team from delays and so we will attempt to communicate primarily through our website and the forums. Thank you for your order. I am working personally with Jason and the crew in the office to ensure the sequence of production dates are fair. If you have any questions, please forward them via e-mail to info@factoryfive.com.

Thanks again!

President

Mark S. Graduates His Mk4 & Scores Magazine Cover!

Congratulations to customer Mark S. on graduating his Mk4 Roadster build! Mark came for a tour of Factory Five in March 2020 to meet Dave Smith and the team. After returning home to the United Kingdom, Mark ordered his Mk4, and it arrived at his garage in February 2021.  Marks good friend, neighbor, and fellow car enthusiast, Stuart H, helpedwith the build which featured a Gen 3 5.0L Coyote, Tremec TKO transmission, 8.8″ solid axle with 3-link rear suspension, 18″ Halibrand wheels, and of course, it had to be in right hand drive. Mark also had the chassis galvanised to…

Factory Five is Closed Today, Monday January 26, 2026.

I made the call to scrub FFR operations for the day. The drive in wasn’t bad, and most roads are clear. Unfortunately our plow crew was late, and the day dawned with 3-4′ drifts in the back parking lot! We will be at work and at full strength tomorrow. Sorry for any difficulties this may cause. Three Generations Embark on a Type 65 Coupe Dream Build

Dave Ryan’s Type 65 Coupe build is moving right along—and it’s become something even bigger along the way. In collaboration with Factory Five Racing, V6 Media is producing a short film documenting the build process. Recently, Dave’s father, Vaun Ryan, sat down to share his lifelong passion for performance cars and motorcycles—sparked as a young boy on the family farm in Utah, building a homemade go-kart powered by a hay-elevator motor. That curiosity for how things work turned into a lifetime of mechanical enthusiasm, passed down through generations and now culminating in Dave’s Type 65 Coupe build, which is a…
