Customer Rob J.’s Mk4 Roadster Build

Rob J. recently graduated his Factory Five Mk4 Roadster build to the Factory Five Forum. We couldn’t resist sharing his build story and photos. Like many who build these cars, he had planned to do a build for years. Originally, he wanted to do a Type 65 Coupe, but when he stumbled across a partially-built Roadster he knew that “this would be it.” It came fully loaded with the options he was looking for —complete kit, Wilwood brakes, Moser rear end, custom gauges and Halibrand wheels. He picked it up with his father and brought it home after a 40 hour road trip.

From the beginning, Rob knew he wanted to use a Coyote engine and a 6 speed transmission. He had lots of ideas to customize it, and ended up doing a full leather interior, power steering, custom roll bars, heated seats, a custom top and had Jeff Miller do the paint.

Rob reminisced, “the build was a lot of work, but was very rewarding. I have done multiple restorations including a 78 Jeep CJ7, a 69 Toyota FJ40 and a 79 Corvette, but this was a whole new level. I had my four boys to help along the way, and even got my girls out in the garage. I think they all will remember this build for the rest of their lives.

I am very happy with the result, especially the color which is Shadow Grey metallic with Titan silver stripes and the fox brown interior. Driving the car is amazing with over 460 hp and the handling of a real sports car. The amount of heads that turn when driving this beauty is astonishing. My roadster got the top prize in the first car show I entered it into.

Ultimately, I have to thank my patient wife. Without her this build never would have happened.”

Congratulations Rob on your stunning Mk4 Roadster build!

Factory Five is only as great as its community, and that is why it is so great. These stories are true. When you build a Factory Five, you build so much more than a car in the process. Cheers to the art of building!

Three Generations Embark on a Type 65 Coupe Dream Build

Dave Ryan’s Type 65 Coupe build is moving right along—and it’s become something even bigger along the way. In collaboration with Factory Five Racing, V6 Media is producing a short film documenting the build process. Recently, Dave’s father, Vaun Ryan, sat down to share his lifelong passion for performance cars and motorcycles—sparked as a young boy on the family farm in Utah, building a homemade go-kart powered by a hay-elevator motor. That curiosity for how things work turned into a lifetime of mechanical enthusiasm, passed down through generations and now culminating in Dave’s Type 65 Coupe build, which is a…
