188 MPH! Gary C. & Father-in-law Set Personal Record in their Type 65 Coupe

After setting a new personal record of 188.84 MPH in his Factory Five Type 65 Coupe, customer Gary C. shared his excitement, saying, “It’s quite exhilarating. Your team designed one of a kind car.”

He continued, “The Daytona Coupe was born in a shop in Venice, California. In 1965, it took first place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, “The Super Bowl of racing,”. Thus, the legend of the Coupe was born. The car that had been built in Venice remained the only one made in America.

On November 6, 1965 the opportunity presented itself to haul it to the Bonneville Salt Flats to race against the clock and write history. Over four days, the car set 23 national and international speed records, reaching a top speed of 187 miles per hour.

Three years ago my 83 year old father-in-law Clyde, my good friend Scott (has built a badass FFR 33 hot rod) and I started working towards the goal of beating the land speed record of 187mph set in the original car back in 1965 on the Salt Flats by Shelby and Craig Breedlove at the wheel.

In our build, we included some of the aero that was used by FFR on the Logano Coupe build and a second generation Ford coyote engine in the car built by legendary land speed engine builder, Kenny Dutweiler, that makes about 950WHP.

Yesterday we achieved our goal with the help of some amazing friends. We headed home with a personal best of 188.84 MPH. This was a good day!

It’s quite exhilarating. Your team designed one heck of a car.

Thanks to all who made this possible!”
