Chris H. is chasing sub-7-second passes in the 1/4-mile with his new Factory Five ’35 Hot Rod Truck, after running low 5.1s in the 1/8 and logging over 60,000 miles of cruising and competition in his ’33 Hot Rod. He put in the work this winter to get the ’35 chassis NHRA approved.

Chris says, “A little over ten years ago I watched the Factory Five Racing delivery truck pull into my driveway. At that time I never would have imagined the impact a single car would have on my life. Some of my greatest memories and best friends have been made while wrenching on the 33. Total strangers coming to help while I was broke down on the highway and competitors turning into life long friends. Not to mention the first time I picked up Raeann was in the 33 and she hasn’t looked back since!

The 33 and I have grown our capabilities together over the years. When I first started assembling the kit I had a hard time welding exhaust hangers on the chassis and needed help wiring up the most basic systems. 8 years later I was fabricating complete hot and cold side twin turbo systems! Together we have many accomplishments over the years from low 5.1x 1/8 mile passes to easily over 60,000 miles on the chassis. She has finished all 6 drag n drive events that we started and accomplished class wins at Rocky Mountain Race Week and Miles of Mayhem along with top 3 finishes at Sick Week, Death Week and Miles of Mayhem plus multiple local shootout events.

2025 marks the beginning of a new journey. The 33 will be rolling off into the sunset as the summer months start to wind down as a new project has been in the works for the last few months.

Factory Five Racing and I have partnered together to build a drag race version of the 35 pick up truck. A few months back Raeann and I flew to Wareham,MA where we met Dave Smith, the president of Factory Five along with the entire staff. We received a VIP tour of the facility where the the chassis’s are built and the bodies are moulded. Plans were finalized and a few weeks later I received the custom version of the 35 truck. I couldn’t help but feel the same level of excitement when the Factory Five delivery truck showed up just as it had done a full decade earlier.

Over the winter I got to work with the help of Steve Groenink, laying the foundation for the new truck. We built a 25.2 chassis to meet the NHRA requirements for the end goal of the truck… Below 7,s

The chassis has been certed, a major milestone in any build and the rear suspension has been mocked up and welded out. Next on the list is to mount the body and work on the floors and firewall.

Follow along the journey as I’ll start posting build updates as progress is made and check out Factory Five Racing web site to learn more about the amazing build it yourself kits they offer. This project wouldn’t be possible without their support and the support of many other companies that will be involved with the project.
