Factory Fives Perform at 2013 Barrett Jackson

The 2013 Barrett Jackson show was one of the biggest ever and the prices for Cobra replicas and customs continues to climb. A total of five customer-built Factory Fives crossed the auction block with prices in the mid-$50,000s. CSX numbered cars also performed well in the new year after Carroll Shelby passed away in 2012.

Here’s a summary of the Factory Fives and the prices they netted.

Lot #458 – Factory Five Racing MKII built in 2004. Highly optioned from FFR with a 393 Street Fighter Pro Street by Coast HP, Edelbrock Victor Jr. heads and manifold Holley 750 cfm carburetor, roller cam, forged crank, cam, rods and pistons. BW T5, Ford 8.8″ with 3.55 Trac-Loc. Adjustable upper and lower A-Arms with disc brakes in front with Flaming River rack and pinion steering. 3-link rear suspension with adjustable panhard bar and pinion angle. Coil over shocks at all four corners. Battery relocated to rear battery well. Fuel Safe aluminum racing 25 gal. fuel cell. Dual core aluminum radiator with thermostat switch. PS Engineering aluminum wheels with Goodyear Eagle II tires. Jet Black with Arctic Silver stripes. Original style gauges, dash layout, steering wheel, mirrors, visors and wind wings. Original style seats with 5-point harness and quick release. Custom dropped floor panels and seat wedges give ample leg room for the big man as driver or passenger. Powered blowers keep cockpit temperatures under control. Very comfortable ride yet handles like the race bred car she is. One owner/builder. Lot #1574 – Factory Five Type 65 Coupe, titled as special construction replica, with only 2,879 original miles. Dark grey exterior with black striping and light grey interior with Luxury Line Pro insulation. All new parts including GM 6.2 Liter engine with LS5 cam, GM 4-speed automatic transmission, 9″ Ford 3.89 differential, 3-link rear suspension with Koni coilover shocks, Wilwood disc brakes all around with six pistons calipers in front and four in rear, Simpson 5-point racing harness, full safety tested roll cage, 3″ stainless steel side pipes, air conditioning and Kenwood DNX-7140 7″ touch screen radio with navigation, XM and Bose speakers. Halibrand aluminum wheels with Kuhmo tires, front 275/40ZR17 and rear 315/35ZR17. Quick release steering wheel.

This Factory Five Type 65 Coupe sold for $58,300.00.

 

Lot #940.1 -Factory Five Roadster with new 392cid Ford Racing crate motor, forged crankshaft, pistons and connecting rods producing 430hp at 5,500 rpm and 450ft/lb of torque at 4,000rpm. This car looks great and drives even better. This car has been finished in BMW Laguna Seca Blue. This was a very extensive build which includes recent Ford Racing GT40 aluminum cylinder heads and valve train, Ford Racing hydraulic roller camshaft, MSD billet distributor with 6AL control unit set at 6,000rpm adjustable, Quick Fuel 750 double pumper carburetor on an Edelbrock air gap manifold, ceramic coated four into four headers with ceramic coated side pipes with shields, Ford T-5 transmission, steel bell housing, Breeze Automotive high speed balance drive shaft, King Cobra clutch, 8.8 Ford rear with 3.55 posi-traction, front disc and rear drums and so much more. Lot #535 – Factory Five Mk3 Roadster completed in 2012, powered by a modern SOHC fuel injected 4.6 Liter Ford V8 mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This heavily optioned Cobra has fully adjustable upper A-arms in the front, an upgraded 3-link rear and coil overs at all four corners. It also features driver and passenger roll bars, high back seats, quick release 4-point belts, Auto Meter gauges and a rear relocated battery. Other modern features include 4-wheel power disc brakes with slotted and drilled front rotors and power steering. Finished in a beautiful Sterling Grey Metallic with upgraded front and rear chrome bumpers. American Racing wheels with Hankook tires. Lot #1209 – This car was listed as a Factory Five, but it is a Shell Valley Cobra replica which sold for $26,400.00.

Prices of CSX Continuation Cars were good with one example selling for $116,000.

Customer Paul H. from Spokane, WA took home 2nd Place in the Handbuilt Sports Car Class at this year’s Spokane Speed and Custom Car Show!
