Sean Crosses the Finish Line on His Roadster Build!

Factory Five customers have unique build stories, budgets, and timelines, but each build is special. For Sean R., his journey has been about enjoying the process and making memories along the way. After much anticipation, he’s finally completed his dream build.

Sean says, “I finally got my VIN number this week so I can finish the paperwork and get it plated! Kit #5874 is officially graduated after way too long!”

His MkIII features a Terminator-powered 4.6L with a 6-speed and IRS rear end, 315 tires on 11″ Konig wheels, and plenty of custom work. “I can’t wait to get it out on a course and see what it can do!” he says.

Sean’s build started in 2006 when he received a donor car kit. He sourced a wrecked 2004 Mustang Cobra for the 4.6L DOHC (Terminator) drivetrain and IRS rear end. Custom axles, Cobra brakes, and antilock systems were incorporated, along with a custom alternator mount to relocate the alternator and avoid extra U-joints.

The build also required a custom intake manifold to fit the supercharger and throttle body, along with an innovative “turkey pan” air intake system. The 4.6L engine delivers 460 rwhp and similar torque to the 315/30/18 tires. The front wheel wells were widened by 1.5″ to accommodate the 315 tires, giving the car an exaggerated hourglass shape.

For the paint, Sean wanted to incorporate his signature flames while maintaining the iconic look of the car. After careful thought, he chose black with a ghost stripe that fades over the rear. The work was done by The Toy Shed LLC. and looks incredible!

One of the longer projects we know of, the project took 18 years to complete as Sean balanced his passion for building cars with raising a family and growing a business. Sean embraced the challenge of custom parts, never rushing the process, and it shows in the stunning details of his Mk3 Roadster. Now, with his dream car complete, we’re eager to what adventures he’ll be savoring next!
