Factory Five Customers Win Big at Detroit Autorama 2020!

The Detroit Autorama is a huge event, and this year, Factory Five customer’s won huge! While customers were winning with their show cars, our 25th Anniversary Mk4 Roadster was featured in Ford Performance’s booth alongside two nasty Ford GTs and two GT500 Mustangs! Here are some photos and a recap of the show.

The Ford display was set-up with a 2006 Ford GT in Gulf livery, and a 2018 Ford GT which was one of the prototypes for the new design in Le Mans paint joined by our 25th Anniversary Mk4 Roadster powered by Ford’s might 5.2L Aluminator XS 580 HP engine.

Factory Five customer Paul Borror has built a couple of Factory Fives, his latest effort this stunning red metallic Gen 3 Type 65 Coupe. Paul’s car would would win 1st Place – Handbuilt Sports Car. Paul was told his car was also in the running for several special awards including Best Paint, Best Interior, and Best Engine.

Freddie Simmons Jr. from SMG Motoring brought his LS-powered and supercharged ’35 Hot Rod Truck to the show all the way from New England. He built the Truck for customers Chris and Pam F., and it was previously featured at the 2019 SEMA Show.

The Truck won 1st Place – Radical Rod Pick-Up ’35-’47 as well as Outstanding Engine in a Hot Rod and Outstanding Detail.

Challenge Car built and painted by Greg H. at Oakland Community College with help from Rick D. and Mike H. The car was built to NASA racing specifications with a Ford 5.0L with Trick Flow top end, Tremec TKO 500, and 8.8″ rear end. Greg’s Challenge Car won 1st Place – Road Course/Autocross Class.

Factory Five dominated the Handbuilt Sports Car Class, and while Paul Borror won 1st Place, customer Bob Mayer’s 351W-powered Mk3 Roadster painted Viper Blue won 3rd Place in Handbuilt Sports Car.

Factory Five Tech expert Dan Golub was on hand the entire weekend in the Ford Performance display answering questions about Factory Five’s Mk4 and recommending Ford crate engine applications.

Dan had the chance to meet Factory Five customer Rick Bohn from Michigan while at the show. Rick built a ’33 Hot Rod in six months, and couldn’t wait to drive it. So far, Rick has put 4,800 miles on the car with the body still in gel coat!

From Track to Street: Ben F.’s Factory Five Challenge Car

For five years, Factory Five customer Ed Boothman and his team competed in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill in a modified Challenge Car. After the 2012 event, the car was retired, and eventually sold by Ed.
