Dave E. Graduates his ’33 Hot Rod Build!

Congratulations to Dave E. on graduating his ’33 Hot Rod build! After being a fan of Factory Five for a number of years, and dreaming of a Roadster project, Dave shifted gears once he laid eyes on a FFR ’33 Hot Rod at the build school at Mott Community College. Dave and his wife would soon order a Hot Rod kit, and take the opportunity to learn new skills throughout the build.

Dave built his Hot Rod with a BluePrint Engines carbureted 400 c.i. engine package, and painted the body Tobacco Matalic. Read Dave’s build journey below.

“Prior to this build, my wife and I would go to the local car shows and inevitably when she would ask which one was my favorite, my response was always the same, “The Cobra of course!” At some point I sent for a brochure and purchased the build manual for the Factory Five Roadster. When we decided to go forward with this project, we decided it would be a good idea to attend the build school since I had no previous experience with cars other than driving them. Over the course of the weekend every time we had a break, I would find myself over in the far corner of the building drooling over the partially assembled Factory FIve ’33 Hot Rod. As soon as I got home and shared this with my wife, we decided to order the ’33 Hot Rod kit.’

“I don’t know what I was expecting, but when an 18 wheeler rounded the corner to my house, I was like the puppy dog in the driveway wagging his tail when his owner came home.”

“We worked on the build on weekends and holidays. The only help I had was from fellow FFR-customer Steve (forum handle GoDadGo) with the engine install as well as a friend who had experience with autobody work that I paid to show me how to work with bondo. He would come over for four hours on Saturday, show me what to do, and give directions for what to complete before next weekend. By the time the body work was completed, I convinced him that between the two of us we could learn to paint from the internet! I bought a machine off of the internet called ShowTime 99, and together we painted the car in my garage.”

“The result is what I call “No Sugar No Cream” because it’s simple like a smooth shot of espresso but the impact? Well I’ll let you decide…”

A ghost and his Factory Five Hot Rod make for a great Halloween!
